The 3rd Truth and Reconciliation Commission has prepared an amendment to the enforcement decree to increase the number of secretariat personnel by 28 to carry out expanded truth-finding duties. The TRC plans to begin full-scale investigations after a decree in October. Song Sang-kyo, Chairman of the TRC, stated,"This amendment to the enforcement decree lays the foundation for the 3rd Truth and Reconciliation Commission to stably perform investigative functions in accordance with the intent of the law amendment."

The 3rd Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) held its first meeting and began full-scale truth-finding activities, including completing the formation of subcommittees. The 3rd Subcommittee will handle the human rights violation cases involving overseas adoption and collective detention facilities, which were the highest amount of new cases received by the TRC3.

The Korea Times According to KoRoot, a civic group supporting adoptees, adoptees from 15 countries, including Denmark, the United States, France, Norway and Sweden, have filed complaints with the newly established TRC. More are expected to join by filing through Korean embassies abroad.

The third TRC is scheduled to launch on Feb. 26, following revisions to the Framework Act on Settling the Past for Truth and Reconciliation, passed by the National Assembly last Thursday. The second TRC was launched in December 2020, but investigations did not begin until May 2021. The third commission is expected to take over unfinished cases and broaden the scope of investigations.
